Hi Daddy,
So today I read Luke 2:41 - 3:38, but I don't have any questions.
I mean I have questions like Why does genealogy matter? and What was Jesus like as a child?
But...I'm having difficulty "chewing" over the words of the Bible.
They seem so empty to me.
Or at least very blunt, with not much depth in them.
How do I even begin to chew over these words, when to me there seems to be nothing to take from them?
Dear Esther,
Yes, the words in the Bible may sound empty and not so meaningful.
But God's word is for our salvation, which is really important.
In Luke 16:19-31, there is a story about beggar Lazarus and a rich man.
They both died and Lazarus went to heaven and the rich man went to hell.
The rich man was very painful in the middle of fire,
and he wanted that at least his brothers who were still in the world might escape from this misery.
So the man asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers
and let him tell the brothers about what would happen after death.
When he was in the world, enjoying an affluent life,
God's message was meaningless to the rich man.
But now in the middle of burning fire, he realized, though too late,
that all the words he had heard from God's servants were "quite relevant" to his eternal life.
It was the same for me when I was at your age.
When I read the Bible, the words in the Book was not so meaningful.
Still I kept reading, and it has taught many unbelievable treasures.
I will choose a verse in the Bible than the whole collection of Shakespear's works.
